Mohali (officially SAS Nagar) is where Chandigarh's overspill lives. The IT parks along Airport Road and the Aerocity zone host Infosys, Quark, and a dozen mid-size firms; the residential sectors (Phase 3B2, 7, 11) are grids of pastel bungalows on numbered roads. The PCA Stadium in Sector 63 has hosted every major Indian cricket team and every IPL franchise at some point — matchday transforms the whole sector into a slow-crawling car park.

As a tourist destination Mohali is honestly thin — go to Chandigarh's Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake instead, they’re 8km away. Where Mohali wins is airport hotels: the Aerocity strip is minutes from the runway, the rooms are new, and the airport (IXC) is where flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and international routes land. Business travelers stay here, catch the stadium if there's a match, and drive north to Anandpur or west to Amritsar.

Where to stay in Mohali

Aerocity and the sectors around the airport (Sector 66-91) have new business-chain hotels at $55-95 — Radisson, Fairfield, Lemon Tree. Phase 7 and 3B2 are older residential sectors with boutique guesthouses at $40-60, useful if you want restaurants within walking distance. Avoid anything advertised as 'Mohali near Chandigarh' that's actually in Zirakpur — different town, worse traffic, further from everything. The stadium-side hotels sell out and triple in price on match days.

Things to do in Mohali

PCA Stadium tour or match
Sector 63, Mohali. Match tickets sell out fast (bookmyshow), $8-40. Non-match days, walk-in stadium tours ($2, 10am-4pm) show the pitch and the pavilion. The floodlight pylons are visible from anywhere in Mohali.
Chappar Chiri war memorial
12km south of Mohali toward Landran. Fateh Burj, at 328 feet, is India's tallest victory tower — commemorates Banda Singh Bahadur's 1710 victory. Open 9am-6pm, $0.50 entry. Empty on weekdays, families on Sundays.
Elante and North Country Mall
Elante is 6km east in Industrial Area Phase 1 Chandigarh — the biggest mall in the tri-city with a decent food court and multiplex. North Country Mall on the Kharar road is closer and has more Punjab retail brands.
Gurudwara Amb Sahib
Phase 8, Mohali. Historic gurudwara marking Guru Har Rai's visit. Open 5am-9pm, langar all day, free. Quieter than Amritsar and closer than Anandpur — good introduction to a working gurudwara.
Signature walk · 2 km
Phase 3B2 Market Loop

Start at Phase 3B2 market inner ring, walk past the food shops and the pharmacies to Sector 70's park, cross to Phase 5's residential lanes, and back via the North Country Mall entrance road. Best 6-8pm when the sectors come alive.

Getting there & around Mohali

Chandigarh International Airport (IXC) is in Mohali — 15 minutes from Aerocity hotels, 25 minutes from central Chandigarh. Prepaid taxis from the airport counter are $4-8 for local, $12-15 to central Chandigarh. Mohali's own bus terminal in Phase 8 has services to Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Delhi. Inside the sectors, autos ($1-3) and Ola work well — Uber is patchy. Walking between numbered sectors takes longer than it looks on maps.

Good to know

Should I stay in Mohali or Chandigarh?
For business or an early flight, Mohali Aerocity. For sightseeing (Rock Garden, Sukhna, Sector 17 shopping, Le Corbusier architecture) and food, Chandigarh Sector 17 or 22. The two cities blur — 20 minutes by cab either way.
How do I get from IXC airport to Amritsar or Ludhiana?
There is no direct train from IXC. Take a taxi to Chandigarh Junction railway station (25 minutes, $8) and catch the Vande Bharat or Shatabdi. Or drive: 2.5 hours to Ludhiana on NH-44, 4.5 hours to Amritsar. Prepaid taxi from airport to Amritsar is around $80.
